Voices of Triumph is a Gospel Choir at East Stroudsburg University that unites in order to dedicate praise and worship in the form of gospel music through their voices.

They also share the Gospel through song and action.

On Saturday Dec. 3, 2016, Voices of Triumph hosted its Annual Fall concert at ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center at 5 p.m.

Backstage before the concert began, whispers of excitement and nervousness stirred among the choir members.

The program included two step routines by the Xplosion Step Team. The team paid a tribute to one of their falling members.

The Voices of Triumph Praise Team is a smaller group selected from members of the whole choir. They performed as well as a dance number by the Sisters of Triumph dance team.

The Bloomsburg University’s choir also performed a selection, as well as a praise dance from ESU alumni, Gerdy and Shantele, who continue to be active members of the choir.

The mistress of ceremony was Terri Smith, a member from Greater Shiloh Church (where the choir sings and attends on Sundays).

According to Terri Smith, “We don’t come here to entertain; we come here to worship the Lord and all he’s done… That was true worship.”

This event was full of emotions as immaculate sounds of praise and worship flowed from the recital hall on Saturday.

Families and friends were shouting and calling for their loved ones as they expressed their talents as a sign of worship.

As a member of the praise dance team and as a spectator, I was touched by all the vibrant young spirits that make up the Voices of Triumph Choir. I could not stay seated in my chair. I was moved by the joy and dedication of these young people.

Behind the scenes, practices leading up to the concert were long from 6:30-9 p.m. for the choir and 9- 10 p.m. for the praise dance team and the praise team. But the entire choir always showed up to practice and gave it their all.

Therefore, on the day of the concert, it came as no surprise that the choir let their voices free and rocked the house. There is no question that these ESU students have no problem openly demonstrating their faith and the community whole heartedly supports them.
