WESS DJ’s Nominated for Three Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Awards

90.3 WESS FM, East Stroudsburg University’s student run radio station, received the MTV Woodie Award for the number one college radio station in the nation in the year 2014, and since then, members of the station continue to produce nationally ranked content.

Three students, Elizabeth Roberts, Vincent Gervasi and Patrick McGee, have been nominated for national awards through the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) for their work produced at 90.3 WESS FM.

Roberts has been nominated in the category “Best Commercial Spot” for a commercial she produced. Gervasi has been nominated for “Best Facebook Page” coordinating with his work as the WESS Social Media Director, and McGee has been nominated for the category of “Best Website” coordinating with his work as the WESS Web Designer.

IBS is a nonprofit organization who aids in the advancement of educational programs and courses focused in the field of broadcasting for college, high school and community institutions. The organization was founded in 1940 offering IBS members a wide range of benefits for over 75 years. IBS offers information and help pertaining to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the governmental agency who manages all broadcasting, assisting all members in understanding the guidelines set forth by the FCC and gives information on FCC License applications and renewals.

Roberts is the business director at WESS and she has been nominated for the category “Best Commercial Spot” for a project she produced for a class at ESU. She also hosts the radio show, The Sound Check, working with cohost, Ian Brown, to deliver music, news, and songs focused in the alternative rock and alternative pop genres. Roberts is very involved with student life at ESU, existing as the President for the Campus Activities board, otherwise known as CAB. Roberts is a Junior, perusing a degree in communication with a focus in broadcasting and she is perusing a minor in digital media technologies with a focus in photography.

Gervasi is the social media director at WESS and has been nominated for the category of “Best Facebook Page.” This past year, the WESS Facebook page reached 1,000 likes and continues to increase each day. Gervasi works to produce engaging and interesting posts which coordinate with the current events and activities of the radio station, keeping the WESS audience informed through more than just the airwaves.

He also produces and hosts the show, The Fabulous Show, which airs Wednesdays at 3 p.m., gearing his content towards pop, hip hop and rap music. He also works with the National Broadcasting Society at ESU, running their social media as well. Gervasi is currently a junior at ESU perusing a degree in digital media technologies with a focus in television and video.

Patrick McGee

McGee is the Web Director at WESS and has been nominated for the category of “Best Website.” The past two years, McGee has worked hard to revamp the WESS website making it user friendly, informative and aesthetically pleasing. He also launched WESS’s first ever streaming app available for all Android devices on the Google Play Store. The app grants listeners instant access to our webcasting allowing listeners to take WESS with them where ever they go. The app is not yet available on the iTunes market but he hopes to have the app accessible for iPhone later this year. McGee is currently a senior at ESU, graduating this spring with a degree in digital media technologies and a minor in Chinese.

Roberts, Gervasi and McGee all plan to attend the IBS Awards Ceremony, along with other college broadcasters from all over the country, in New York City held the weekend of Mar. 3rd.
