ESU’s Women’s Basketball team had three players who scored in double digits, and the Warriors cruised to a 90-81 win over the Millersville University Marauders last Saturday afternoon at the newly renovated Koehler Fieldhouse.

Sophomore guard Noelle Powell continued her outstanding play by scoring a team-leading 22 points.

Junior guard Imani Brown was her usual stellar self contributing 19 points and seven rebounds.

On Monday, Brown was named the PSAC Women’s Basketball Eastern Division Co-Athlete of the Week.

Senior forward Allison Howard came off the bench to score 17 points in only 19 minutes of play.

In the beginning, this was a competitive game. ESU led Millersville 22-18 at the end of the first quarter.

At the end of the second quarter, the Warriors surged to a 43-34 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw the Warriors lead by as many as 21 points.

Once again, bench scoring played an important role in the outcome of this game. The Warrior bench showed their depth by outscoring the Marauder bench 29-5.

ESU had 24 points off turnovers compared to only 15 for Millersville.

The Warriors also had 11 fast break points compared to only four for the Marauders.

Another key difference was in three-point shooting. The Warriors were 10 for 28 from behind the arc, but the Marauders only shot 3 for 13 from three-point land.

The Warriors are riding a five-game winning streak and currently sit in second place in the PSAC East. They have already clinched a spot in the postseason PSAC Tournament.

The Women’s Basketball team (14-7, 10-7) will play the West Chester University Golden Rams at Hollinger’s Field House in West Chester on Saturday, Feb. 11. Dubbed Play 4 Kay in honor of former North Carolina State University Women’s Basketball head coach Kay Yow, this game will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer fund whose mission is to fight women’s cancer.
