Advice Column: Stress Management

Classes, homework, work, and extra curricular activities.

I know it seems a lot but welcome to college. Going to college to further your education is always a good thing, but it can be extremely stressful.

But don’t worry, and take a deep breath because in the end it will all be worth it, because there are ways to handle stress while being in college.

First is time management. Time management is so important because planning everything out ahead of time will not make you as anxious because you started
some of the work.

It’s best to break everything down accordingly so you don’t have to pull all-nighters and regret it in the morning.

Next is try to exercise at least three times a week, and yes, walking around campus counts. Walking at least 30 minutes a day is good for your heart and it
also relieves the mind of thoughts that are bothering you.

You also need a stable support system. Having someone to talk to can also relieve stress so you don’t have to hold up any bottled up emotions that can
affect your school work.

Try talking to friends, a counselor, or find someone who you really trust to just let it all out.

Also eat right. Putting harsh foods in your body does not give you enough energy when you need to study, and you will find yourself fighting sleep which is
not a good thing because sleep is really important.

It allows your brain to function properly and think clearly so you won’t be as stressed.

So relax, and inhale and exhale when doing your work because it seems hard now, but your future will be brighter.
