ESU’s Women’s Golf team placed ninth out of 13 schools at the Eastern “Battle at the Bay” held at the Chesapeake Golf Club in Rising Sun, Md. last Sunday and Monday.

The two-round golf tournament saw the Warriors posting scores of 378 in the first round and 365 for the second round for an aggregate score of 743 on the par 71, 5,824-yard course.

Junior Samantha Miller finished tied for sixth place. She led the team by shooting a cumulative score of 163. Miller recorded a score of 79 in the first round and was one of only six golfers to shoot a sub-80 score in either round.

The lowest score for the first round was 75 by Gannon University’s Manuela Quevedo. Millersville’s Danielle Green and Gannon’s Carley Sawyer both shot 77 for the lowest score in the second round.

ESU junior Mackenzie Mathna shot a cumulative score of 187 to tie for 48th place.

Freshman Amy Bergquist, sophomore Caterina Daniels and freshman Brianna Carly finished 53rd, 61st and 71st respectively for the Warriors.

Gannon University won the tournament with an aggregate score of 654. Among other PSAC schools that participated, Kutztown was fourth, and Millersville was sixth.

The Women’s Golf team will return to competition at the Millersville Invitational at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club in Quarryville, Pa. on April 2.

Millersville finished runner-up at last fall’s 18-hole Eastern Invitational last October. The Warriors wrapped up their fall season at the Eastern Invitational tied for fourth place.
