This four-part science fiction series takes place in a future dystopian world where at the age of 16 everyone is turned “Pretty” through cosmetic surgery.
The main character, Tally Youngblood, discovers the truth about her world and rebels against the very community she so badly wanted to be a part of.
Fighting to undo the mind alterations and controlling ways of her society, Tally struggles to maintain her own sense of self while trying to fix everything that has gone wrong.
“The Lunar Chronicles” by Marissa Meyer
This five-book young adult fantasy series takes a new twist on common fairy tales Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White.
Set in a futuristic world of cyborgs, androids, humans and moon colonists, each book revolves around a main character based on a fairytale character and the struggles and battles they are forced to face.
“Throne of Glass” Series by Sarah J. Mass
This young adult high fantasy novel series follows main character and teenage assassin Celaena Sardothien in her world of a corrupted kingdom ruled by a tyrant.
As Celaena begins to uncover a conspiracy about the kingdom, she forms bonds with the most unexpected people and discovers more about herself.
“The Maze Runner Series” by James Dashner
This young adult dystopian science fiction series consisting of five books reveals details in a mixed order describing how a series of disasters destroyed the world.
Through the use of children, a group of authorities fight to find a cure for the decrepit world by testing intelligence and strength of the teenagers who were meant to save society and rebuild the human race.
“Delirium” Trilogy by Lauren Oliver
These three dystopian novels follow Lena Haloway, a young teen who falls in love in a community where love is seen as a disease.
After a series of major bombings, civilization is split up into separate cities blocked from each other by electric fences. Travel between cities is restricted and love is seen as a disease named “amor deliria nervosa” that is surgically cured in everyone at the age of 18.
Months before Lena’s procedure, she falls in love with a rebel and must choose between the only life she’s ever known or a life on the run.
