Students looking for guidance in every aspect of writing academic papers, will find the help they need in the back-right corner of the first floor in Kemp Library at the Writing Studio.
Created in 2006, the Writing Studio has grown to become a hot-spot for writing on campus, offering over a thousand tutoring sessions a semester.
“The Writing Studio’s mission is to help students draft, revise, and complete their writing assignments in a comfortable, cozy environment,” the page from the ESU website says.
Students are able to improve their writing by working through every stage of the writing process with guided practice, helpful tips and motivation, one-on-one tutoring sessions, handouts, and other helpful resources.

“I definitely love how the tutors work with you step by step and help you understand what you are doing wrong and right,” student, Ericha Holman said.
The tutors at the writing studio are certified and have completed the appropriate clearances. They come from varying majors such as education, professional writing, and speech pathology.
“being able to teach someone how to write is a gift that can never be replaced,” said tutor, Melissa Dorhan.

“My favorite part about working at the studio is my co-workers because they are so welcoming and very helpful,” said senior tutor, Katie Morgan.
Computers, quiet work space, and tutoring are all available at the studio. In the Writing Studio Lounge, students can work on group projects or meet to hold private study sessions uninterrupted.

Comfortable couches and large table space make this the best place to go for quiet study time.

For those who live off campus, or don’t have time to visit the studio, the website provides various pages with helpful quizzes and tutorials created by present and previous tutors that cover numerous lessons such as how to use coordinating conjunctions, formatting a paragraph correctly, and using commas appropriately.
The website also offers a FAQ page to answer additional questions students may have.

For more information, students can visit the tutors Monday- Thursday from 1 p.m.-9p.m., Friday 1 p.m.-5 p.m., or Sunday 4 p.m.-9 p.m. or call the desk at 570-422-3593.
Students can also find the writing studio on social media. The studio is on Facebook at Writing Studio at ESU, and on Instagram as @esuwritingstudio where they post updates, special events and photos.
