7 Underrated Eateries in the Stroudsburgs

Sweet Creams Cafe located at the end of Main St, only two miles from campus

ESU is surrounded by a huge food scene. There are many restaurants and café’s that line Main Street in Stroudsburg that students and faculty flock to. However, there are a few hidden gems in East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg that are too quick to be forgotten, or never even discovered by many.

Cedar’s Mediterranean Grill

Cedar’s is tucked away at 10 North 8th Street in Stroudsburg. It is a small, family owned Greek deli that offers an array of Mediterranean specialties made fresh daily. Cedar’s offers a lunch and dinner menu, that include their famous gyros, falafel, kabobs, salads, grape leaves, hummus, vegetarian options and more. A must-have when visiting Cedar’s is their gyro, which is prepared on pita with an authentic Greek yogurt sauce. Their hours are Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday noon to 7 p.m. A full menu can be found on their website

Café Duet

Café Duet is a cozy café located in the Courthouse Square, 35 North Street, in Stroudsburg. Since they use fresh and seasonal ingredients, their menu changes from time to time. However, their delicious baked goods as well as specialty sandwiches, melts and salads are a great way to treat your taste buds. They also offer a fresh soup of the day. Of course, Café Duet serves a variety of specialty brews made with Stumptown Coffee. Their hours Monday through Friday are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Dog House

 The Dog House is located right on 560 Main Street in Stroudsburg. A inexpensive stop for lunch, The Dog House sells specialty hot dogs and sausages on fresh buns. Some of the popular hot dogs include the Bacon Mac & Cheese, a deep fried bacon wrapped hot dog topped with mac and cheese, as well as the Texan, which has pulled pork, baked beans and cole slaw, drizzled with BBQ sauce. The Dog House offers other food as well, like smoothies, gelato, homemade pierogis and waffle fries. Their hours are Monday through Wednesday 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday noon to 7 p.m. Their menu can be found here. 

The Cure Café

The Cure Café is located at 517 Main Street in Stroudsburg. A new addition to the area, they serve a “Morning Cure” menu from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. featuring egg specialties, customizable pancakes and build your own omelets. The “Midday Cure” lunch menu offers quesadillas, salads, wraps and hot and cold sandwiches. Items from these menus include an open faced reuben, mango black bean wrap, harvest cobb salad and Tino’s Spanish frittata. The Cure Café’s hours are Monday through Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Their menu and daily specials are posted on their Facebook page

Sweet Creams Café is located on the end of Main Street closest to ESU’s campus, 429 Main Street in Stroudsburg. This charming little café hangs local art on their walls, creating a comfortable yet classy atmosphere. Sweet Creams offers 15 flavors of their homemade ice cream daily, gourmet sandwiches, salads and individual pizzas. Popular menu items include their vegetarian nachos, spinach and artichoke dip, buffalo chicken salad, and stuffed potatoes. Sweet Creams also sells coffee and baked goods. Their hours are Tuesday through Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5:30 p.m. Their menu and daily specials can be found on their Facebook page

Tony’s Restaurant & Pizzeria

Tony’s is located at 57 Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg. Tony’s is family owned and operated since 1968, and brings classic pizzeria food to the local area. A recent change of ownership has resulted in an increase of hours, new menu items, and delivery service. Now open seven days a week, Tony’s is a great spot to grab a few slices of pizza, a cheese steak, garlic knots and chicken parmigiana. New menu items include seafood pizza, burgers and fries, mozzarela en corrozza and more. Their hours are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Their menu can be found at here or their Facebook page.

Quench Café and Juice Bar

Quench is located at 11 North Street in Stroudsburg. They are a small yet lively café that offers a variety of healthy smoothies and fresh made juices. Their food menu includes breakfast items like the breakfast burrito, snacks such as yogurt parfaits, and many different wraps, salads, and paninis. Juciy classics include Iron Man, made with green apples, celery, kale and parsley, the Crouching Tiger which is made with carrots, celery, kale and ginger. Classic Smoothies offered by Quench include Mochalicous which is made with coffee, skim milk, chocolate protein powder, the Reggae Runner made with peaches, mango, strawberries and pineapple, as well as many others. Quench delivers and also offers a curb side pick-up for their takeout orders.
