The historic Dansbury Depot is getting a new look this weekend. ESU’s Art + Design students will collaborate with the Eastburg Community Alliance (ECA), a nonprofit organization geared toward improving downtown East Stroudsburg in creating a new exhibit.

From Sept. 23 to Oct. 3 students will showcase their works, which consist of all different kinds of media, inside the Depot located on Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg.

“Exhibiting is always an important experience for Art + Design majors,” said Jocelyn Kolb-DeWitt, Assistant Professor of Art + Design and the coordinator of the exhibit.

“Exhibiting at the Depot is a lot of fun. The Depot gets great art, ESU students get to learn about the interesting local history and the community gets both!”

The Dansbury Depot originally served as a train station that ran to what is now ESU. Today, the Depot serves as a culture and community center under the ECA.

This is not the first time that Art + Design students have worked in the former train station.

“Our students have had several exhibitions at the depot in the past,” Kolb-DeWitt said. “Evelyn Barone, ESU A+D major, 3D printed old lost parts for the train tower last year.”

The Musical Theater Organization will close out the Depot’s “Music Mondays” on Oct. 2 from 5p.m. to 6 p.m. “Music Monday” features music by local artist and musicians.

According to press release from Elizabeth Richardson of University Relations, the members will perform select songs from “The Fantasticks”, “Jekyll and Hyde”, “Little Shop of Horrors” and “In the Heights”.

Angelica Ramirez, a junior majoring in musical theatre said the group is set to perform at many community events.

“We always enjoy performing and we have a great time interacting at community events,” said Ramirez.

The Depot opens this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Transportation to Crystal Street is available from ESU’s shuttle bus. The Depot is also walking distance from campus if you want to get some fresh air.
