Every semester the Office of Student Engagement greets students with a week full of programing called Welcome Week.

This spring, Welcome Week featured a new activity hosted by the Commuter Council: an Uno Tournament.

The Commuter Council is a group of students whose main goals are to be the voice of the commuter population of ESU and to engage commuter students in activities and involvement on campus.

As part of the latter, the Commuter Council focuses on scheduling monthly events during the day when most commuter students are still on campus.

This Uno Tournament was the first Commuter Council event of the semester. The event took place on Thursday Jan. 18 in the Commuter Lounge on the first floor of the University Center.

The Commuter Council rearranged the room so that 4 groups of competitors could play at the same time in the first round.

In the first round, around 30 students competed for the chance to move on to the next round.  The first winner from each table received a $10 gift card to Barnes and Nobel as a prize and were the first four to advance to the next round.

Subsequent winners also advanced to round two. When the first round was complete, another round began to determine the next group of winners.

The first winner from each table in round two were allowed to move on to the third and final round.

Despite intense competition, a tournament champion was eventually named: George Loudon!

Loudon took home the grand prize of a $25 Barnes and Nobel gift card and bragging rights!

The next Commuter Council event will be the Valentine’s Bash on Feb. 13 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Commuter Lounge in the University Center!
