Spring had finally arrived as the ESU Warriors (17-14) hosted the Kutztown Golden Bears (13-13) on April 14.

It was a doubleheader showdown as ESU split the series with Kutztown. The first game was riddled with misplays for the Warriors as they fell 15-6.

But an impressive 11-run second inning in the following game hoisted the Warriors over the Golden Bears.

The Warriors fell behind quickly in the first outing, allowing the Golden Bears to take an early lead of 6-0 in the first four innings. ESU answered with a solo shot homerun by first baseman Mike Sulcowski in the bottom of the fourth to put ESU on the board.

The Golden Bears followed up with five runs in the fifth, including a grand slam. Laine Renaud would add three runs for the Warriors with a homerun with two on board bringing the score to 11-4.

The Golden Bears would prove victorious as they added on four more runs, bringing the final score to 15-6. Despite the blowout loss, the Warriors would fight back and bring their bats swigging for the second game.

ESU opened the scoring early with two runs in the first. But the deciding inning would be the following one.

The Warriors had a staggering nine hits which allowed them to score 11 runs.

Laine Renaud hit his second three run homer of the day, and shortstop Joey Paolini hit a two run longball as well.

This brought ESU up 13-0 at the end of the second inning.

Strong pitching would hold Kutztown to only 4 hits and two runs throughout the game.

The final score would end up 13-2 Warriors.

ESU’s next game is on April 17 when they host the Molloy Lions at 3 p.m.
