Warriors Split Double Against Golden Bears

The Warriors split Friday’s softball home double header against Kutztown University on April 13.

ESU posted a loss in the first game 6-8, but rallied to win 6-5 in the second. In the seventh inning of the second game, the Warriors trailed 5-2.

With bases loaded, senior Mary Wallick knocked a home run straight into centerfield to give the Warriors and edge of 6-5 and the win.

Also making big hits for the Warriors were senior Madison Oren, sophomore Rachel Grabowski, and freshman Sofia Cecchin. Each player had singles to load the bases for Wallick.

In the fifth inning of the game, sophomore Kaylee Hazewski was up to bat and launched a single to left field to put ESU on the scoreboard with two runners batted in (RBI).

Junior right-handed pitcher (RHP) Erica Molinaro was credited with the win, though split time on the mound with freshman left-handed pitcher Mickayla Grow.

Molinaro allowed only four hits and one run after substituting in for Grow during the fifth inning. Kutztown pitcher Adrianna Dilal was credited with the loss. 

Dilal pitched the whole game for the Golden Bears, earning two strikeouts and allowing only ten hits across seven innings.

In the first game against the Golden Bears, ESU dropped the game 6-8. Grow was the pitcher credited with the loss after splitting time with RHP Angelica Dark. Dark allowed eight hits, but only four runs.

She had one strikeout.

Grow allowed four runs, four hits, and walked one batter.  This was her first credited loss of the season.

Scoring for the Warriors in game one were Kaylee Hazewski, Mary Wallick, Ashley Spencer, Kaitlyn Caleen, Madison Vicendese, and Madison Oren.

Kutztown pitcher Erin Fortney was credited with the win after four strikeouts and allowing only five runs.

ESU is now 11-19 overall and and 3-7 in conference play after suffering two losses to Millersville University on Saturday, April 14.
