ESU’s Gender and Sexuality Center has a new look.

Now located in the University Center’s first floor, the Center has much more space for their clubs and activities as opposed to its original spot in Shawnee Hall.

President of People Representing Individual Diversity in Education, or PRIDE, Eli Johnson, says he feels the club’s new location will make a refreshing change for the ESU community.

“I wanted to keep a casual hang-out space for anyone so it’s right in the middle of everything,” he said.

The initial decision to move the center closer to the heart of campus has been in the works by the center’s coordinators for awhile.

When they heard about the sudden opening in the University Center in the former convenience store they knew they had to grab it.

Not only has there been changes in location for the center, they also welcomed their new director at the beginning of the semester, Dr. Gene Kelly.

PRIDE also plans to implement programs through the week for their club to discuss topics such as gender identity.

Some of the days include“Masculinity on Mondays,” “Women’s Wednesdays” and “Genderfluid Fridays.”

The Gender and Sexuality Center is also a shared space for other clubs including Feminist Alliance, NuColors and National Council of Negro Women.

“We’re really excited about the new Gender and Sexuality Center,” said Hanna Bennink, president of the Feminist Alliance club.

“I think it gives a good place for all the clubs that are focused on empowerment and equality to come together in one place.”
