Everything You Need to Know About the New PS5 Games

The PlayStation 5, Sony’s next generation console, is available for purchase after Nov. 12 and since one of the ways some of us are passing the time right now is through video games, this month is as good a time as any to do so.

Thanks to the pandemic, many of us students have to spend most of our days indoors as time moves forward. Unfortunately, next year will likely be no different, as all classes will be online again.

As with many other consoles, the PlayStation 5 will come with a plethora of games that will help some of the more indoor types pass the time through some much needed entertainment.

While these are not the only games being released for this new console, these are some of the top games that I think will make the PlayStation 5 worth considering to get during these hard, trying times:

  • “Spiderman: Miles Morales”

If you are a fan of Spiderman, Marvel in general, or if you are just looking for a great game to invest your time in, the PlayStation 5 exclusive title “Spiderman: Miles Morales” will likely satisfy.

Developed by Insomniac Games, “Spiderman: Miles Morales” takes place one year after the previous game, Marvel’s “Spider-Man,” which was also developed by Insomniac Games.

In “Spiderman: Miles Morales,” Miles must defend New York City from an all-out street battle between the Roxxon Energy Corporation and a group of technologically-armed thugs named the Underground, who are led by a villain named the Tinkerer.

While the game will be shorter than its predecessor, it will offer a new story, new quests, and new gameplay elements.

Unlike the PlayStation 4 version, the PlayStation 5 version will have unique benefits such as immensely less loading times, largely improved ray tracing effects, and a “performance mode” that will let the game run at a 4k resolution and 60 frames per second.

While playing the previous game is not a requirement, those who want to get caught up with the story are in luck.

The PlayStation 5 version of Miles Morales has an ultimate launch edition that includes a PlayStation 5 Remastered version of Marvel’s “Spider-Man,” bringing along many technological improvements only the PlayStation 5 can provide.

  • “Gotham Knights”

For those who prefer DC, or like or love both Marvel and DC, or looking for an upcoming game to keep track of, “Gotham Knights,” in development by WB Games, might just be a worthy contender.

“Gotham Knights” is an upcoming open world action-adventure game taking place in the world of the Dark Knight himself on the PlayStation 5.

In “Gotham Knights,” Gotham City superhero Batman is supposedly dead, causing the city’s numerous crime waves to further increase. Gotham Knights will have players take the role of four heroes: Batgirl, Red Hod, Robin, and Nightwing, in an attempt to defend Gotham from several villains, solve many mysteries, and uncover hidden secrets about Gotham’s history along the way.

  • “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”

“Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” is the next main entry in Ubisoft’ Assassin’s Creed series. Like its predecessor, “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,” “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” is an action-adventure open world game that will likely also have nearly a hundred hours of content to offer to players.

One of the main differences between the two games though, is that “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” will incorporate Norse mythology into much of its content, as opposed to Odyssey’s use of Greek mythology.

Fellow student Sean Chandler stated one of things that makes “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” fun for him is, “the open world plus the immersion of the Greek world from back then. I love history and the Assassin’s Creed always fulfills that.”

Combine this with the technical improvements of the PlayStation 5, like the extremely quick loading times, and “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” sounds like something that may be worth keeping an eye on.

“Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” is currently available to purchase.

  • “Hogwarts Legacy”

“Hogwarts Legacy” is a new Harry Potter-themed game being developed by Avalanche Software, releasing on the PlayStation 5.

It is an open world action-adventure game that takes place before the events of the books.

“Hogwarts Legacy” will yet players customize their character, craft potions, learn several types of spells, encounter fantastic beasts and experience a story that will let players decide the fate of the world by discovering a hidden secret that will decide what kind of wizard a player will become depending what they do with it.

“Hogwarts Legacy” will release at some unspecified point in 2021.

The PlayStation 5 is available for purchase in many retail shops, such as Best Buy, Target and Amazon, for $500.

There is also a digital version that is available for $400. The console can also be purchased from retailers online.

While $400 and $500 is admittedly a large price, the games available on the console and the fun they will provide could make the price worth paying.
