Women are everywhere in the entertainment industry: whether it be on a stage, a television, or a canvas. They make music, film, and art. In honor of National Women’s History Month, here are a few women who have made history over the course of their lives:

1. Beyonce

Beyonce is a singer-songwriter best known for her R&B and pop songs. Recently, she broke the record for the most Grammy wins in history. She now has 32 of these awards to her name. Many people admire Beyonce for being a great representation of the women’s community, especially those of color. For the month, I highly recommend blasting “Run the World (Girls)” to make it even better.

2. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is an inspirational, talented, and famous singer-songwriter who has been in the industry since she was a teenager. Since she has a large platform, Swift makes an effort to demonstrate kindness, acceptance, and compassion. Currently, Swift holds the record for most American Music Awards with 34. There is a reason Swift is Billboard Woman of the Decade.

3. Meryl Streep

When it comes to entertainment, Meryl Streep is a landmark in talent and success. She has been acting for decades proving that age should not define your career or achievements. In 2012, Streep helped put together a Women’s National History Museum to help raise awareness and kindness. Since then, she has been breaking records and speaking up about issues that affect the lives of women. Streep has been and always will be a favorite in the industry.

4. Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is a world-renowned photographer who is often left out of these lists considering her smaller fanbase. However, Leibovitz is known for her portraits of celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, John Lennon, and Jennifer Lawrence. If you think you do not recognize her, think of the woman who is behind the cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA album. She has been photographing for over fifty years and gives other celebrities a chance to feel good about themselves through art.

5. Ariana DeBose

Ariana DeBose is a well-known actress, dancer, and singer who demonstrates her abilities on Broadway and in movie theaters. Her legacy has been made in the awards she has won. DeBose is the first Afro-Latina actress and queer woman of color to win a SAG award for acting as well as an Oscar. DeBose is constantly open about finding a place in society and how important acceptance is for those in need. She represents women of all kinds in a positive light which many cherish.

There are plenty more in the arts and entertainment industries who have made history and done more than people would expect. They write and perform about topics near to their hearts while following their dreams. Women in these industries receive more hate than the average person hence the need for extra support in their lives.
