Last Saturday, ESU’s Women’s Tennis team posted a 7-2 win over Kutztown University at East Stroudsburg High School. With the win, the Warriors punched their ticket to the postseason PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2011.

It was also Senior Day for the team. Before the start of the matches, the Warriors honored its two seniors, Amber Jadus and Kayla Loar. Jadus and Loar played doubles together, and they defeated the Kutztown team of Alyssa Konas and Taylor Capoferri 8-6 to set the tone for the Warriors.

The Warrior team of junior Elizabeth Bartoli and freshman Martina Zardet beat KU’s Yasmeen Malik and Alicia Pursell 8-2.

ESU’s duo of junior Devin Presby and freshman Aubrianna Stetina defeated KU’s Ashley Carter and Shadimon Navarro at love to complete the doubles sweep for the Warriors.

However, the Warriors lost their first two singles matches allowing the Golden Bears to claw their way back.

But with the score 3-2 ESU, the Warriors would sweep the rest of their singles matches in straight sets to post a 7-2 victory over Kutztown.

Zardet has been magnificent this season. The freshman posted a double-bagel win over Kutztown’s Kady Wuagon.

On Monday, Zardet was named the PSAC Women’s Tennis Eastern Division Athlete of the Week. Zardet plays third singles for the Warriors and is 9-4 in dual singles matches this season.

The Warriors (4-8, 2-3) played Bloomsburg (5-6, 4-1) in the PSAC quarterfinals last Tuesday afternoon at Bloomsburg University. The Huskies came into the quarterfinals with a four-game winning streak including an earlier 7-2 win over the Warriors on April 5.
