Horror movies always have a hard time pleasing the audience. People who are obsessed with the classics may say new Hollywood horror is tacky. Others may say new Hollywood horror is peak horror, whether it is because of the graphics or the different style of writing.

Director Michael Chaves’ “The Conjuring: Last Rite” (2025), is a horror movie that tells an exaggerated tale of famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren’s final case.

This is definitely a movie you want to see if you like the paranormal and a good jump scare.

The movie starts out with Ed (played by Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (played by Vera Farmiga) enjoying a hiatus from their paranormal investigations after Ed had a heart attack. Ed and Lorraine Warren come back into their paranormal investigations only because of the Smurl family and their daughter, Judy (played by Mia Tomlinson).

Throughout the film the audience learns about the history of the demonic entity the Warrens came into contact with in one of their earlier cases. The same demonic entity that started to haunt the Smurl family.

The graphics were amazing just like any other multimillion dollar Hollywood movie. They were realistic as they could be considering that spirits aren’t fully proven to be real.

With a mirror coming to life, a very creepy looking farmer with an axe and one of the Smurl’s daughters throwing up glass and blood.

It is definitely a movie you can watch without watching the past movies in the Conjuring Universe. But watching the previous movies does help and makes the events that happen in the movie scarier.

This movie is worth a watch even if you’re a person that is not into horror movies. It is the perfect movie to kick start the spooky season.
