Orville Peck released his fourth studio album, “Appaloosa,” on Nov. 14.

Peck has released popular songs such as “Dead of Night” and “Midnight Ride.” He has also recently starred in “Cabaret.” This show was the only time he took off his mask to reveal his face, usually keeping it on for all his performances.

In this album, Peck holds true to his usual country style but adds his own alternative twist to his music.

“Appaloosa” is a short album featuring seven songs with a total listening time of 25 minutes.

My favorite song on this album was definitely “Maybe This Time.”

This track is a cover of “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret.” It felt like a tribute to his role in the show. I love the way his voice works with this song. He’s singing it in a soft-spoken voice instead of an exaggerated broadway tone.

It was creative the way he put his own style of music into this cover. He definitely did the Broadway musical justice with this cover.

I also really enjoyed listening to “Dreaded Sundown.” The intro of the song had me hooked the moment I heard it. The horses whinnying and the string instruments and percussion worked perfectly.

“Even cowboys get the blues,” was a lyric from the song that brought me back to Peck’s old music. His image as a musician is that he is a cowboy. I love that he stays consistent with his image.

This song also fits very well with his alternative country style. The song had a country feeling, but not what people may traditionally think of as country. It does not sound like every other country song on the radio.

When listening to the track “Oh My Days,” I heard something very familiar. The song reminded me of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls at certain points. Peck may have taken inspiration from “Iris” when recording this song.

My least favorite song on “Appaloosa” is “My Side of the Mountain.” This song was not necessarily bad, it just wasn’t for my taste.

This song takes on the traditional country approach, which I am not a fan of. It was just very plain and did not stand out to me. I also felt like it did not blend particularly well with the other songs on the album. It just felt randomly placed in the middle of the album.

Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this album. I do not typically listen to country, but something about Peck’s music pulls me in.

I enjoy the way he always does something unique in each album. I have not been a fan of him for a long time but I really appreciate his music.

I am excited about what music Peck puts out as he progresses in his career.
