ESU’s Women’s Soccer team capped off Family Weekend by defeating the Millersville University Marauders 2-1 for its fifth win last Saturday.

Senior goalkeeper Jules Harris was her usual outstanding self in goal. Harris made four saves and notched the 50th win of her collegiate career.

Sophomore midfielder Jules Sicker scored the first goal of the game in the eighth minute. Sophomore midfielder Monica Wood assisted on the goal.

In the 69th minute, senior midfielder Molly Vicari scored ESU’s second goal off a rebound after Millersville sophomore goalkeeper Katia Mujica punched out a long cross. Freshman midfielder Haven Snyder assisted on the goal.

That insurance goal would be important because Millersville would finally break through with a goal in the 85th minute. Millersville sophomore midfielder Kay Liebl bent a long kick that beat Harris to make the score 2-1.

The Marauders were now within one goal of forcing overtime, but ESU’s defense shut out Millersville for the final five minutes to preserve the win.

The Warriors won despite the Marauders outshooting ESU 15-10.

It was a different story with penalty kicks where ESU held a 5-2 edge over Millersville.

After a relatively slow start, the three-time defending conference champion Warriors are now tied with four other PSAC teams with five victories on the season.

The undefeated Kutztown University Golden Bears sit atop the conference. The Golden Bears are off to a flying start with six wins and an overall record of 8-0. Kutztown is ranked No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II poll and will visit ESU to play the Warriors on Oct. 18.

ESU (5-2-1) faces Slippery Rock (4-3-1) this Saturday.
