Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a model? Want to discover or renew your passion for the world of fashion? How about gaining some inside secrets and skills in the modeling profession? What if you could achieve all of this right here on campus?

Well, here’s your chance. The Modeling Club was recently approved by the SAA. According to the club’s president, Priscilla Voker, the club is in the planning stages and the officers are finalizing their positions.

“We have not had our first meeting yet, but a lot of people have signed up and shown their interest from the social media and flyers posted around campus,” said Voker, a sophomore business management major from Philadelphia. “I brought my ideas to the student affairs organizer. He seemed really excited and I am hoping to bring these ideas to life once we get it in order.”

Voker stated that one of her ideas includes helping others become familiar with the world of modeling. This includes working with how different fashions are involved as well as forms of expression and body movement.

“This club is not just about looking good on the runway,” Voker added. “Modeling is not a look. It is not just about looks. It is all about how you carry yourself without being scared or afraid of who you are.”

Voker added that the club’s main mission is to help people gain confidence through their person and expressions. She would also like to help others find ways to communicate through the different expressions of modeling and to help others feel comfortable with their body image.

Voker’s inspiration for starting the club formed from her childhood years. While she was growing up, she modeled professionally in Philadelphia.

“I initially modeled for my high school, although that experience was brief,” said Voker. “Subsequently, I engaged in recreational photo shoots and have been modeling for over four years. I eventually transitioned to a behind-the-scenes role, where I find fulfillment in bringing my creative visions to life.”

During the pandemic, she pursued business management and embraced entrepreneurship, focusing on developing her skills as a business owner.

“I also launched a clothing line called VPStudios, which operates under my LLC, VProductions.”

Voker hopes to combine her love for the art of modeling and her business entrepreneur experience to create an experience that could help spread that joy to others.

“When I found out that there was no modeling club here, I wanted to create one,” Voker said. “Our business management advisor, Dr. Carol Dimopoulos, helped me out. When I brought up my idea to her, she knew people within that field. She ended up spreading her resources.”

Alexi Wilson, the club’s vice president, also invites students to reach out if they are interested in joining.
