In a time where the landscape of politics seems more divisive now than ever, it is important to remember that hostility, violence and aggression of any kind serve no purpose in that landscape whatsoever. The use of violence within disputes doesn’t lead to a solution. If anything, it only leads to more confusion, the loss of trust and fracturing of relationships.
Incidents such as the assassination of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk this past Wednesday have unfortunately become more and more frequent within our society. Whether or not you agreed or disagreed with Kirk’s political views, it is important to acknowledge that in no way should he have been killed for expressing his views.
Violence within politics of any nature is a direct betrayal of the core values and beliefs America has established itself upon. These acts of aggression in disagreement are a hypocritical backstabbing of the very ideas of free speech and civil discourse. They have no place at all in our society.
This issue is not about left or right. It is about the ability to safely say and express one’s opinion in a nation that has built itself upon the idea of free speech.
In a democratic society, differing opinions are not just inevitable, but also necessary. These very same disagreements lead to compromise, with that compromise serving as the foundation of our country’s way of living.
Discourse that is open, respectful and civil is crucial to solving conflicts and strengthening relationships. Civil discourse and the ability to express one’s views is arguably the most important aspect of the American lifestyle, and impeding upon that through the use of force is a direct violation of what has been the groundwork of this very nation.

It is on us as American citizens to treat each other, regardless of political stance, with the utmost respect and civility. If we continue this trend of senseless violence, it will only lead to more and more problems.
