Doja Cat released her fifth studio album, “Vie,” on Sept 28, 2025. This 15-track album is her first album since 2023 with the release of “Scarlet.” The producer of this album is Jack Antonoff, who is famous for working with artists like Taylor Swift.

Doja Cat has been heavily promoting the album on shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show.”

The artist even has her own Fortnite skin in the game’s current season. She is a game boss who players can defeat for major prizes.

The album overall is something different than her usual sound. The background instrumentals and upbeat songs make the album feel like it is from the 1980s. She experiments with a synthesizer which gives the album the retro feel.

The first track on her new album is “Cards,” and is an amazing showcase of Doja Cat’s vocal range. The song is able to showcase both her low register as well as her high vocal range.

“Jealous Type,” the second track, went viral on social media. This track is upbeat and features saxophone in the background. I thought that this song was super upbeat and catchy. I like the way that Doja Cat is experimenting with the synthesizer and saxophone.

The third feature track is “AAAHH MEN!” which is one of my favorite songs on the album. The beat of the song reminded me of Halloween and the chorus of the song instantly drew me in. This song has also gone viral after being featured in Fortnite.

“Couples Therapy” is a more soft spoken song on the album. This song is reminiscent of her older albums, but still fits with the theme of this one.

“Gorgeous,” the fifth track, is synthesizer-heavy and one of the most popular songs on the album. This song has both a pop and R&B feel. I enjoyed how Doja featured a voice memo in the middle of the song.

The sixth track “Stranger” is rumored to be about her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Quinn. The title is allegedly because of Quinn’s role as Eddie Munson in the hit show “Stranger Things.”

“All Mine,” the seventh track, is a smooth flowing song . This song felt very R&B and retro. I really enjoy this song and like how the song was able to feature rapping but blend it with the smooth background.

The musician SZA is featured on the next track, “Take Me Dancing”. The two artists had previously worked together on the 2021 song, “Kiss Me More.” I think that featuring SZA was an excellent choice for this album. Fans loved it when they did their first collaboration. Their voices blended together perfectly on this song.

The ninth track, “Lipstain,” blends both English and French. The French was a surprise to me, but I really enjoyed this song. I like how she was able to alternate lines between French and English. This is another song that reminded me of some of her past albums.

“Silly!Fun!” the 10th track was exactly as the song title described. This song had such a fun beat and unique lyrics. This song felt like a fun, upbeat pop song that you would hear on the radio.

“Acts of Service,” transitions into a more serious tone. The lyrics to this song are more soft spoken then the other songs but the background beat keeps it on theme with the rest of the album. This song was another one of my favorites on the album. I love the chorus and the bass in the background.

“Make it Up” is next and has a similar feeling to “Acts of Service”. I really enjoyed the use of the synthesizer in this song. I also loved her chorus in this song and the way she incorporates background vocals.

The 13th track “One More Time” contrasts the previous two tracks. This track is super upbeat and lighthearted. I really felt the ‘80s theme come through here. The chorus of the songs repeats for a long time but her ad-libbing in the background keeps the chorus exciting. I can imagine a TikTok trend forming around this song.

The second-to-last track, “Happy” starts with a synthesizer beat. The beat reminded me of something I would hear in a Janet Jackson song. The title and beat of this track and the actual meaning of the lyrics are opposites. She is singing about an ex and trying to be happy even though they are moving on. This is another track on the album that features French lyrics.

The final track is “Come Back” and is about wanting to go back into an old relationship, even if that relationship may not have been healthy. I believe that this was a good song to end the album with. The relationship is over but she is not ready to completely let it go. It felt like the end of the album was the end of her relationship.

As a long time Doja Cat fan, I really loved this album. It was something unique from her but still was reminiscent of her old style. The hate toward the album was unwarranted. It felt like people listened to a new song and did not even give it a chance. I can not wait to see the “Tour Ma Vie World Tour” next year and see how these songs will translate into performances.
