You can just call her Miley now.
Miley Cyrus recently dropped her last name ahead of her 10th album release, “Bass Persuades.” We can say that her album is not filled with bass, though. In fact, it might have done some good if she had a little more of it. Instead, this album may not resonate with the ears of her usual audience.
“Bass Persuades” is lacking its glue and feels more taped together last minute than well thought out. Although creatively adventurous, some may consider switching the dial without listening all the way through as she tries her footing in the electronic music scene.
Miley is talented, has creative artist phrasing and a unique voice that captures her listeners’ attention. “Bass Persuades” showcases the Miley’s continued commitment to explore more diverse styles with her music.
The message was lost while trying to understand Cyrus’ end game with this one. It appears that she was trying to produce an album that is heavy on throwback dance music with a twist of today’s modern EDM.
As an artist who has sold millions and is fully capable of making an album worth a full listen, she fell short this time. The album is all over the place. It is a new era of “Miley” and though I can appreciate her strive to evolve, I wish this album was more put together.

Songs like “Let’s Get Married” and “Orbit” are filled with lines about devotion and a gravitational pull to your person. Those two songs stood out from the rest and seemed to follow her usual style. They give us a small piece of the Miley that we knew while she is caught up in the mix of this reinvention.
At the end of the day, this is just Miley, well…being Miley.
Miley is an artist that is always doing her own thing. She does a great job at challenging herself by attempting genres out of her norm. On occasion she gives us a few hits or a solid album like her 2023 “Endless Summer” that had its lead single, “Flowers,” which stayed at number one for eight weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. That album was solid with nearly perfect transitions.
I’d like to say that I will be giving this album another try but one run through was enough. Like many fans, I always look forward to hearing what direction Miley may take her music next. This is an artist who has been around since her preteen years, and she still has a lot more music to create with the amazing musical skills within her.
It is beautiful how her music always represents the stage of life she is in as well as her present state of being. Although, this new era of the self-assured and fully confident Miley is refreshing, I’d like to see what she has next sooner than later.
