Bid received. Greek life had quite the productive week as Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Tau and Sigma Sigma Sigma all brought new members home to their chapters.

Recruitment week ran from Sept. 14-17. Fall recruitment is considered informal recruitment here at ESU. Informal recruitment is a way for potential new members to find their homes in a relaxed environment.

“I love getting the opportunity to show off our chapter and all the incredible things we stand for. We love getting to meet potential new members (PNMs) and getting to share our sisterhood with them and we are always so grateful for the recruitment process,” said Brook Engler, president of Alpha Omicron Pi.

The first day of recruitment consisted of informational tables outside Sci-Tech. Potential new members were able to chat with chapter members while learning about the chapters’ mascots, flowers and information about their organizations.

“My recruitment process was amazing. I went into recruitment being super excited, so I’m so happy with the turnout. I love how the first day I got to meet each sorority, and I always had a group of girls to talk to,” said Abby Callahan, a new member of Alpha Omnicron Pi. “My conversations flowed with everyone and I talked about so many things. On day two, all the sororities had different themed rooms, which I thought was so cool. I learned a lot more about each sorority and what they do.”

The second night was activity night. Potential new members had the opportunity to play games with the organizations while learning about the sisters in each chapter all while the sisters learned more about the PNMs.

“By the end of day 2 I had my heart set on where I wanted to be. The girls in my now sorority had made me feel like I was at home. Every girl I met through recruitment I now wave and smile when I see them on campus. It was overall an amazing process, and I’m so glad I met all these girls,” said Callahan.

The third and final night was friendship night. Potential new members learned about the chapter’s dues, bigs and littles, leadership opportunities, founding dates and locations, chapters, philanthropies and many other important information pieces. This night gives potential new members the chance to ask their final questions and solidify their decisions.

The role of a Rho Gamma is to be by their PNM’s side and guide them to their future homes. They are to answer any questions or concerns that a PNM has and to make the recruitment process as relaxed as possible for them.

Thursday, Sept. 17 was bid day. PNMs received calls from the Vice President of Recruitment on the Panhellenic Council. Potential new members were informed of the chapters that they were extended bids from and then had the opportunity to choose which organization they would like to accept the bid from.

Sorority recruitment is another way for ESU students to branch out and explore new ways to get involved in the campus community.
