With a sport as tough as rugby, you need a tough group of girls and that’s exactly what ESU’s Women’s Rugby team consists of. Coach Paul Nasar has switched up the team’s routine this season to focus more on getting into shape with three-mile runs three times per week, in addition to regular practices. The team is in the best shape in years because of this new routine.
As a rugby player myself, I feel as though not many spectators understand the sport, and that we do not get the recognition we deserve. We aren’t a varsity team here on campus, but we are a club sport. We do represent East Stroudsburg University when we take the field. The bleachers are mostly empty on game days with the exception of family and friends of the players. This season the team has tried to drum up as much support as possible. With the help of player Roxanne Fentross, Goomba’s Pizzeria on Main Street in Stroudsburg is sponsoring the team, and we would like to thank them for that. The team holds a 2-0 record.
The Women’s Rugby Team would really appreciate campus support during its last home game this season on October 14th- vs. UPenn at 8pm. Home games are played on the football field. We also have a Men’s Rugby team here at ESU that could use your support as well.
