East Stroudsburg University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter has several plans for this spring semester.
PRSSA has had a presence at ESU since fall 2010, but the university did not officially recognize PRSSA as a club until December 2011.
PRSSA accepts all majors but most of the members are of communication studies, graphic design, and English majors.
Within PRSSA is a student-run public relations firm titled Warrior Relations. Through Warrior Relations, PRSSA members are able to get real world experience in providing public relations services for organizations.
These services are free of charge to the organizations and can include advertisements, graphic design, promotions, and social media.
This semester PRSSA is working with ESU’s Feminist Alliance on designing a logo for their show, “The Vagina Monologues,” in addition to helping with promotions and marketing for the event.
PRSSA is also working to improve ESU Warrior Spirit.
The club was asked to come up with ideas that define ESU as a university.
Currently trending through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram under #ESUREVAMP is a flyer asking students, faculty and staff, alumni, and the community for their ideas for a new logo, mascot, and fight song that will express the warrior spirit at ESU.
In addition to running Warrior Relations, PRSSA participates in a number of volunteering events.
This semester PRSSA put a team together for ESU’s Relay for Life, which will take place Friday, April 4.
PRSSA also helps the United Way of Monroe County, who serves as their philanthropy. Each semester they create an event to raise money to donate to the United Way.
Being a member of PRSSA also gives students a chance to attend PRSSA conferences. During the fall semester two members of PRSSA attended the PRSSA 2013 National Conference in Philadelphia.
This semester two members of PRSSA will attend the PRSSA 2014 National Assembly in Charleston, South Carolina. At the national assembly conference, members will be able to attend leadership-training sessions, participate in discussions, network with professionals, and more.
PRSSA meetings take place every Tuesday at 3PM in Monroe Hall 116.
