The Fifth annual baking contest was a huge success. According to the judges, “It was a very close competition, with all entries being very delicious.”

There were over ten entries in this year’s contest, which was one of the best turnouts the contest has had yet.

Every cupcake had its own individual flare, but most were pretty typical cupcake flavors like Oreo and chocolate.

But then there were strange combinations such as a Mountain Dew, Dorito, and Pop-rock cupcake and chocolate-covered bacon and banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting.

Although there weren’t a huge number of entries, the tension was high.

In the half-an-hour it took to taste all the cupcakes, a large crowd had accumulated around the stage in anticipation of the announcement of the winner.

Third place was taken by an apple-banana cupcake with cream cheese frosting, which was described by one of the judges as “a healthy and delicious cupcake that would be defined as a taste of fall.”

Second place was an espresso cupcake with a chocolate ganache center and a white chocolate frosting accessorized with a tiny bendy straw in each.

Another judge described these cupcakes as “delicious and memorable, definitely a very, very close second. I definitely wanted another!”

So as the excitement built in anticipation of the announcement of best cupcake in the competition, a large drumroll burst forth in the cafeteria, and people were cheering quite loudly.

First place was announced: the Mountain Dew, Dorito and Pop-rock cupcake.

This strange combination cupcake is sweeping over the Internet as the “Gamer’s cupcake” or the “Munchie cupcake” on sites such as Reddit and featured on weird food lists across the country.

One of the judges said, “It was definitely memorable and interesting! I would never have tried it on my own accord!”

After the contest was finished, the cupcakes were up for grabs, and the prizes were given out.

A large rush ran for the winning snack cupcakes, and they were gone in seconds, whereas the other cakes went out more slowly.

Didn’t manage to snag one of these strange cupcakes? Fear not! These cupcakes will be featured in Dansbury Commons throughout the semester, so you can try it for yourself in the near future!
