The Madelon Powers Art Gallery has opened once again this season with the arrival of its newest exhibit, Passage of Time.

The exhibit features work from East Stroudsburg University alumna, Miharu Lane, containing mostly pieces that describe the passing of time, as depicted in the title of the exhibit.

Miharu Lane graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, and earned a Masters of Fine Arts at Marywood University of Pennsylvania.

She joined ESU’s faculty in 1995, and retired in June of 2011.

She has held exhibits of her work in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and numerous institutions of education such as Penn State University, Suraci University, and George Mason University.

For this gallery, using different mediums such as water color, pastel, and mostly oil on canvas, Lane created scenes that represent time moving forward.

Under a piece that depicts bright trees and flowers in nature reads the quote, “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away, For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land”.

Lane’s statement about the exhibit is posted in the Gallery; “Passage of time can be seen in sunrise, sunset; in the ebbing of the tide; in changes of the seasons; in a moment of time as flowers bloom, and in eons of time as the Appalachian Trail ends at the rocky shores of Acadia. Old cars, abandoned houses, projects left forgotten, memories of what happened in the past remind us of the passage of time. Water, like time, passes from babbling brook to turbulent seas; it is never the same.” says Lane.

I paint the fleeting moments as they pass by in my life,” said Lane.

A list of the paintings available for not only show, but also for sale, include: “George’s Landing,” “Tide Going Out,” “Schoodic Point,” “A Spiritual Place,” “Red Roof,” and “Railroad Museum.”

The gallery is open to the public until Sept. 30 in the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Center. The gallery’s hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays; and 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

An opening reception will be held in the gallery on Sept. 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All are welcome to come and enjoy the artwork.
