On a rainy Saturday afternoon on Sept. 12, 2015, East Stroudsburg University’s women’s field hockey team faced the Kutztown Golden Bears in a non-conference game and lost at home, 1-0.

Kutztown senior forward Anna Behm, the reigning PSAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week, scored the only goal of the game with 3:53 left in the first half to allow Kutztown to escape with the win.

The Warriors dominated and played hard the entire game and even with a close comeback at the end of the second half, they still came up short.

Despite the Warriors holding a 17-5 advantage in shots, Kutztown managed to score on their only shot in the entire first half.

Kutztown senior goalkeeper Kayla Denlinger was stout in goal making 11 saves in the shutout.

ESU junior goalkeeper Danielle Ard had 5 saves for the Warriors, who opened the season with three wins in a row over ranked opponents. They beat Stonehill 5-1, Adelphi 4-1, and Bloomsburg 2-0.

ESU is now 3-1 after Saturday’s loss to Kutztown and is currently ranked no. 4 in the latest NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) poll.

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Warriors played top-ranked Millersville in a non-conference game on the road and lost 1-0 to their archrivals, the Marauders. Millersville’s Aliza Mizak scored the only goal of the game ten minutes before the first half.

In this game, the Marauders outshot the Warriors 11-4. Millersville has now beaten ESU five straight times.

Next for the Warriors (3-2) is a showdown at high noon on the road against Slippery Rock on Saturday, Sept. 19.
