ESU’s women’s soccer team slayed the Seton Hill University Griffins 2-1 on a late goal by junior midfielder Sammi Ortiz last Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors got the lone goal of the first half when freshman midfielder Danielle Cary took a corner kick from senior back Hannah Gombos and beat Seton Hill sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Neill to make the game 1-0 ESU.
In the 54th minute, Seton Hill sophomore forward Emily LoPresti’s penalty pick beat ESU goalkeeper Jules Harris to tie the game 1-1.
The game would stay knotted for another 22 minutes.
In the 76th minute, Ortiz was able to find the back of the net, and the Warriors won the game 2-1.
Harris was outstanding and made 10 saves for ESU.
Seton Hill had 20 shots to 19 shots for ESU, but the Warriors held a 6-3 edge over the Griffins in corner kicks.
The Warriors (11-2-1, 11-11) are back in action again Edinboro at home on Saturday afternoon.
