Each week a Disc Jockey from East Stroudsburg University’s radio station, 90.3 WESS, is selected as DJ of the week for their exceptional performance and hard work on the air. This week’s DJ of the week is Tyler Rice for his radio show Rush Hour Sports.
Rice is from Bronx, New York and is currently a senior at East Stroudsburg University. He is pursuing a degree in Sports Management, as well as fulfilling a minor in Communication.
His Radio show, Rush Hour Sports, is a program devoted to all things sports talk. Rice, along with co-host, Shane Adamson, focus on popular, in season sports and leagues, like the MLB, NFL or NBA, but the two hour program allows for talk of other sports like Tennis and soccer as well.
His inspiration for the show stems from his love of sports and he appreciates the opportunity WESS gives him to talk about them with an audience.
“My inspiration for the show comes from my love of sports, a strong passion of mine. The great thing about WESS is I get the opportunity to talk about them and I can express my views in specific areas of a sport” Rice stated.
The ultimate goal for Rice, in the future, is to secure a career in sports broadcasting, either as a sports radio talk show host, or as a live play by play announcer for a major league sports team or broadcast network.
Rice’s favorite aspect about being a part WESS is the practice and semi-professional atmosphere it facilitates for future broadcasters and radio announcers, and he believes radio is the perfect bridge into professional sports casting.
“Radio is one of the more difficult forms of sports casting, but if you can gain confidence and comfortability on the radio, the transition to a career in sports casting will be so much easier.”
His initial plan in joining WESS was to gain experience and practice his skills; however, he appreciates the friendships he has built at the station during his membership, like the one with his co-host Shane Adamson.
Listeners can catch Tyler Rice’s show, Rush Hour Sports on Tuesdays from 52 to 4 p.m. on 90.3 WESS via the radio, or they can stream WESS over the web at tunein.com/radio/WESS.
For those who cannot listen to his show at their original time can listen to internet podcasts of the show by going to Radiofreeamerica.com and searching WESS.
