ESU’s Women’s Swimming team won nine events at the ESU Invitational held inside Koehler Fieldhouse’s natatorium last Saturday.

The Warriors had a number of strong performances in preparation for next week’s PSAC Championships.

The Warriors were led by junior Kate Zimmerman. Zimmerman swam the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 30.70 seconds setting a new Koehler Fieldhouse school record.

In addition to the 50 breast, Zimmerman won the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:56:95.

Junior Allison Cardow also won two events. Cardow won the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle and finished runner-up by 1.88 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle.

Other first-place finishers for ESU included freshman Tarah Killane in the 1,650-yard free, senior Kayla Keating in the 100-yard free, freshman Allison Young in the 200-yard backstroke and Kelly Buyaskas in the 100-yard IM.

ESU’s relay team also won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

This was ESU’s last home swimming meet of the season, and nine Warrior seniors were recognized prior to the start of the tournament for all their outstanding accomplishments.

ESU all-time swimming great Ashleigh Podhayny came to the event to support her old teammates.

Millersville and Kutztown also competed, but this event did not record overall team scores.

ESU’s Women’s Swimming team will return to the pool to compete in the season-ending PSAC Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. on Feb. 16-19.
