One of the biggest plot twists I’ve ever read was in the book called “Black Lies” by Alessandra Torre.

This book jumps around to different time in the main character’s, Layana Fairmont, life. from present day to eight years ago, from two years ago to one month later. The book is also broken into different parts which tells me this book in going to be like a rollercoaster.

3 years ago, she met her boyfriend Brant Sharp. Brant, a millionaire at the age of twenty, had his first relationship with Layana, but she couldn’t figure out why she was the first. To her, he was perfect.

They were together for years, and Brant had even proposed five times, Layana said no every time because she thought it was too soon, even though mentally she said yes.

One weekend Brant had to go away for work and decided to bring Layana with him. In the middle of the night, she woke up alone in bed. She went downstairs in search of her boyfriend and found him in the bar of the hotel.

Layana puts her hand on his shoulder and he turns around and she says, “In the next few minutes, everything about our relationship changed… It turned out I didn’t even know him.”

We as the reader never find out what happened after this scene because the point of view switches to Brant and he never explains what happens, until the end of the book.

In part two, Brant and Layana go to Belize, and where she meets Lee. She knows she should turn around, but Lee says she looks very familiar and they must know each other.

The two hit it off right away, but at the beginning of the story, Layana says, “Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails. If you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t.”

She was very right! I’ve never read a book like this before.

She was cheating on her boyfriend, but was she really?

When I was reading this book, I was so confused! I almost had to put it down and add it to my DNF, did not finish, pile. I kept reading though because no matter how confusing it was, I had to know what this “Black Lie” was.

And once I found out the truth, everything made perfect sense.

Because she wasn’t really cheating on him. Because when Brant wasn’t home, he turned into Lee, and Brant blacked out and couldn’t remember anything he did as Lee.
