Ask Edita

I have a test this week, but I am swamped with other schoolwork. What should I do?

– Kat1991

Dear Kat1991,

Schoolwork can and will always clash with other things, especially studying.

It’s a known fact.

So, it is best that you schedule your week so that you have time to study.

Perhaps try studying right before bed each night.

This is the best time to study.

How so?

It’s been proven that us human beings remember whatever it is that we think of before bed.

Therefore, we are encouraged to read before bed.

Another tactic you could use is studying in between classes.

If you choose to do this, it is a good way to not waste your time, especially as a college student.

A third tactic you could do is carry your notes around with you throughout the week and take your notes out whenever you find time to study.

Even if it’s for ten minutes.

A fourth tactic you could use is to create digital notes and play them in the background of whatever you are doing at the time.

This can be convenient if you really need to complete other assignments.

Most programs do have an audio feature.

I feel like I try so hard to do well, but it always goes unnoticed.

– Rabbits

Dear Rabbits,

Although receiving praise and any sort of acknowledgment is rewarding, it should not be what determines your happiness.

What matters is that you know you are trying hard to do well.

If you know that you are trying, then you should focus on that.

Whatever praise you receive from others should be seen as a benefit to how you already feel about yourself.

One quote that comes to mind is, “We are our own best friend and our worst enemy.”

If you take that into consideration, you and only you can make yourself feel better about yourself, or worse.

The weather is getting nicer outside and I want to hang out with my friends, but I have so much school work to do.

– Summer

Dear Summer,

I can guarantee you that you are not the only student who feels this way.

The spring semester is probably the hardest for us all because of the change in weather as well as the consistent snow days that we have.

Despite this, your school work is still important no matter how nice the weather is outside.

Just think about how employees feel when they have to work when it’s a nice weathered day outside.

So, the best thing for you to do is probably plan to do your schoolwork during certain hours.

For instance, try to complete your schoolwork early in the morning when the temperature is still low or do as much as possible before bed when it is dark outside.

Or, bring your schoolwork outside and enjoy the weather while getting work completed.
