Men from all parts of the United States are showing their patriotism. East Stroudsburg State Teachers College men are no exception.

Those who have been drafted in the army are Eugene Chavicci, James Sabatelli, George Brewer, Warren Zimmerman, football and basketball star, and several alumni, namely: Richard Jennings, Lloyd Armitage, Norman Homas and Richard Lewis. Richard Lewis is stationed at Camp Lee in Virginia.

Among the alumni is Edward Evans, who enlisted in the air corps, and is stationed at Missouri. Student volunteers are John Gorman and Gilbert Dodd. Gilbert volunteered in the Naval Reserve Air Corps. He will spend six weeks in Philadelphia, and from there will go to Pensacola, in Florida.

These alumni all enlisted to serve our country in World War II.

Although this article was published in relation to World War II, ESU also has a memorial commemorating students who fought in World War I, as well as plaques honoring other alumni who have served.

This memorial is referred to as the “Julia” statue, located in the middle of the College Circle. Students can visit to pay homage to ESU veterans and honor those currently serving.
