This Week in History: College Fashions

Only critical style issues have been changed.

Happy days are here again! The campus once more is strewn with its autumnal garments and students, not to be outdone, are doing their best to compete with Mother Nature in sartorial splendor.

This year’s Betty Co-ed epitomizes comfort. Perhaps her extremely long shapeless cardigan or slipover in grayed green, soldier-boy blue, and raisin brown may not be glamorous, but what cares she. They are comfortable and different, aren’t they? Skirts may be seen in a wide variety of styles and colors. A new trend in plaid is indicated by a clan plaid on a light background. One such article of clothing on the campus is a red, green, blue and white, pleated around and worn with a green sweater and pearls.

Don’t most girls tire of wearing a skirt and sweater on Monday, a different skirt and sweater on Tuesday, and say for a change, a skirt and a sweater on Wednesday? A soul-satisfying change could be brought about by the purchase of a few cotton dresses.

Camel’s hair skirts and jackets are beginning to be seen again.

Have you noticed the long middy dress of emerald green jersey with matching accordion pleated skirt, or the powder blue rabbit’s hair sport dress with box pleats?

The static styles in lovely colored wools are always good.

The long torso line is also apparent in dressy frocks. A particularly fetching frock is a black crepe with a fitted waist and three-quarter sleeves.

As for evening gowns, the Christmas dance isn’t too far distant, so why not try a sleek jersey dinner dress in a new shade, purple aster, or whitenet formal.

Suitable accessories are also very important. You have probably noticed those knobby knitted hats that are just the thing to wear with the sport coat or reversible. See if you can get a matching pair of knobby-knitted mittens.

For dress, small hats that set high on your pompador or large face-framing hats are becoming.

Earrings are back again and have undergone many changes.

New colors in shoes are cherry, a rich brown, mahogany, a deep brown with a dark red tinge, baby calf, or saddle tan styled after the eternal loafer.

According to all observations, junky jewelry seems to have passed out of existence. However, three-strand pearls or a single swoop are very popular.

As for the preparations that the Egyptian women used before we did, there is not much news. Cosmetics stay the same but a clear red lipstick is being used.

While fashion trends from then are noticeably much different than they are today, fall fashion is still important to many around campus.
