While many students see Thanksgiving break as an opportunity for some much-needed rest and relaxation before the oncoming stress of finals week, others see it as an opportunity to break up with their girlfriend or boyfriend from their hometown, an event that popular culture has now deemed as the “turkey drop.”

This phenomenon is most typical among college freshman, since this holiday break is usually the first time that they see their significant other since starting school.

The interesting phenomenon has even prompted a film of the name “Turkey Drop” in 2019, starring Olivia Holt and Ben Levin. The movie follows the main character as she returns home for the Thanksgiving break, all while her boyfriend plans to break up with her.

So that leaves an interesting question: Will many ESU college students take part in this “turkey drop” during our Thanksgiving break from Nov. 22 to Nov. 27?
