Daryn Blackwell’s football journey continues in a Warriors uniform.

Blackwell is taking the next step in his football career by signing with the Winterthur Warriors in Switzerland for the 2024 season.

Not only as a football player but also as a track and field athlete, he has excelled. Three times he was named to the first team all-conference, three times he was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, and twice he was named to the first team all-region during his college football career.

“It honestly means the world to me. You know, as a kid, you always have a dream of playing football or any sport at the highest level possible,” said Blackwell. “The opportunity to play football at the highest level possible and be able to travel—I just think that’s a win-win in my book, and I’m so excited for this next opportunity I have.”

Football has always been in his DNA since he was a child growing up in Toms River, New Jersey. Blackwell began playing organized football in the fifth grade and was able to pave his way due to his strong size. In high school, he was dedicated to being a premier athlete not only in football but also in track and field.

In addition to being a student-athlete, Daryn recently completed a master’s degree in management and leadership with a concentration in sports management. While preparing for two sports in the fall and spring of his collegiate career, Blackwell has always remained focused on striving in the classroom.

Throughout his career at ESU, he has displayed diligent work and leadership that will translate into his professional future.

“What ESU has done for me has been nothing but magical. It took an 18-year-old boy and turned him into a 24-year-old curious man,” said Blackwell.

The Winterthur Warriors will be a true test for Blackwell, playing against other professional football stars. He will have to adapt to learning an unfamiliar culture and language, which is a major step forward in life off the football field.

Daryn Blackwell’s time at ESU has prepared him to make significant contributions immediately to the Winterthur Warriors.

When asked how ESU propelled him to the next step of his career, he said, “I’m just very thankful that ESU has done nothing but support me and helped me get the opportunity. I can’t wait to represent New Jersey and everyone else that is in my corner during this next step.”

Winterthur Warriors receive a true warrior who will be remembered as a great in the history of ESU.
