Break into the glamorous world of journalism at ESU this fall

ESU’s student newspaper will hold its 2024-25 autumn recruitment meeting next Thursday, Sept. 5, and we’d love to meet you!

The 100-year-old independent Stroud Courier seeks students who hope to break into the glamorous world of journalism, or who just want to learn how to communicate professionally in a way that earns attention and respect.

The media world is notoriously competitive, but Stroud Courier volunteers possess an incredible track record of landing impressive positions at some of the biggest media organizations on the East Coast and beyond.

Our writers and editors have worked for Disney, NBC, Bloomberg News, PA Spotlight, HarperCollins and countless other organizations.

“It’s just my opinion, but if you want to work in the media as a writer or editor, I truly don’t think there’s any better training for it available at ESU,” says faculty advisor Professor Bill Broun. “And it’s a great group of young people. Many people become lifelong friends on the paper. It’s just super fun.”

We’re looking for contributing writers, editors, photographers and social media influencers, as well as people who want to sell ads (and make money!).

We’ll train you with skills that give you a definite edge on the job market for years to come and also boost applications for grad school, law school, med school and more.

“Some of the very specialized skills and info we teach just can’t be had in traditional classrooms. Interviewing skills, AP style, data journalism, multimedia storytelling, real-life media ethics and law—and so much more, ” adds Broun.

Come join the team and make a difference in your community and in your own future professional life.

Our first staff meeting is at University Center 217, Thursday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. For more info, contact Stroud Courier Editor-in-Chief Aliyah Williams at awillia131@live.esu.edu or Advisor Prof. Bill Broun at wbroun@esu.edu.
