Now that most Warriors are settled in, many have ventured off campus for entertainment. You may have noticed that since last semester ended, some new businesses have opened. Not only are there new businesses but there are a few popular ones still open for a few weeks before fall is in full swing.
Since the demolition of the Friendly’s on Brown Street, a new Starbucks has been built into a strip of new shops. With this location being less than a fiveminute drive from the school, it could help to avoid longer waits at the Starbucks on campus. The only downside is dining dollars are unfortunately not accepted.
A spot that opened within the last few months is the Tropical Smoothie Cafe in
Stroudsburg. Located in the same plaza as 5 Below and Five Guys, this smoothie spot has a variety of healthier treats for a fair price compared to similar places. It is about a 10-minute drive from campus and across the street from another store that is soon to open, Ross.
Ross is a great place to shop on a budget. They sell similar products as T.J. Maxx and for about the same or even lower price. This will be a good option for students who want to update their wardrobes without breaking the bank. There is no set date yet for when they will open.
Another eatery that will be coming soon to East Stroudsburg is Wingstop. With football season starting, this spot couldn’t open any sooner. “I am so excited that we are getting a Wingstop,” says junior Sarah MacIntire. This will not only be a nice option for students to eat at but also a possible opportunity for a parttime job that is near campus.
One spot that is only open during the summer is Rita’s in Stroudsburg, less than a 10-minute drive from campus. As of this week, they are still open, but they won’t be for much longer. They usually close by the end of September, so get yours while you still can.
Lewis’ Ice Cream in East Stroudsburg is also open seasonally with no set closing date. Last year they were open even into the beginning of November. Recently they posted to their Facebook that they have pumpkin flavor soft serve for the fall season. They have options for food as well as plenty of different ice cream flavors to choose from. It is about a 15-minute drive from campus.
Another fast food and ice cream spot that is seasonal in Stroudsburg is Big Star. This is also around a 10-minute drive from campus (or five if you take the highway) and usually stays open into October. With a nice outdoor seating area complete with string lights lining the ceiling, it’s perfect for summer or fall evenings.
Even when school is doing the most, it can be nice to take a break for a sweet treat. Whether that is actual food or going to buy a new shirt for a party, check out some of these places to see what’s new, or to visit before they close for the season.
