The Country Music Association Awards is one of the three primary country award shows that premiers annually. This year is no different from any other with predictions, snubs, and bets on who will take home the best recognition. Leading the charge is Morgan Wallen with seven nominations followed by Chris Stapleton and Cody Johnson who each have five.
Wallen, being a front-runner in every award show, is often snubbed from nominations and victory. However, with the most nominations of any artist, it is going to be incredibly difficult to not grant him at least one achievement.
Starting with Single of the Year, the nominations are: “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “Dirt Cheap” by Cody Johnson, “I Had Some Help” by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen, “Watermelon Moonshine” by Lainey Wilson, and “White Horse” by Chris Stapleton.
Many predictions believe Wilson or Stapleton will pull another victory in this category but not because their songs are the best on the list. Johnson is often nominated but wins less than preferred by fans. Shaboozey is brand new to the stage and has to battle against strong reputations for this award while Wallen has yet to be recognized for his excessive talent and may continue to be ignored.
Next is Female Vocalist of the Year which includes familiar faces as well as new names. The nominees are Kelsea Ballerini, Ashley McBryde, Megan Moroney, Kacey Musgraves, and Lainey Wilson.
Based on previous years and awards, the predictions believe Wilson will once again take home the crown for Female Vocalist of the Year. However, Ballerini or Moroney may have a chance after the year both women experienced.
Ballerini has been on a massive healing journey and has taken fans with her. Moroney has released another highly reviewed album and just announced her own headlining tour. This category may seem obvious but is closer than anyone thinks.
The second most important category is Album of the Year which features five popular artists. The nominations are Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves, Fathers & Sons by Luke Combs, Higher by Chris Stapleton, Leather by Cody Johnson, and Whitsitt Chapel by Jelly Roll.
Musgraves and Jelly Roll are the surprises in this category considering the lack of attention both artists have been receiving as of late. On the other hand, Combs is the primary victor in this category since his reputation and talent are undeniable in his latest album. Different media outlets desire to give Johnson the award for his cowboy country style yet he often faces missed opportunities by CMA voters.
Finally, the most valuable award of the CMAs is Entertainer of the Year. The nominations are often reflective of years prior, and this year is the same. The nominees are Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen, and Lainey Wilson.
Combs, Wilson, and Stapleton have all won this award while Wallen and Jelly Roll have not. Jelly Roll is new to the spotlight and a new face to this category. Wallen has been repeatedly nominated for this award, but due to past conflicts, CMA has yet to give him this title.
Most media sources state Wallen should be the obvious choice due to the pure performance he offers through his albums and concerts. However, Wilson has now won twice in a row and is shooting for a third.
The 58th Annual CMA Awards will premiere on November 20 on ABC. It will also be available for streaming on Hulu the following day. Check out who wins in November!
