ESU’s Esports Club has recently seen an increase in members from previous semesters, according to Club President Vincent-Arsenio Tice. The demand for new members is still on the rise, and the club continues to make its name known around campus.

“I would say the amount of people that are in the club now has tremendously increased compared to last year,” Tice said.

The club had gained 25 new members in one day from their participation in ESU’s Involvement Fair. Tice stated that last year, the club had only gained a total of six members.

“It has grown since last semester since we’ve seen people gain more interest in gaming,” Tice said. “More and more freshmen join which gives us more people to push to for our club.”

The club has done a myriad of advertising. They have flyers all around campus and even market themselves on Instagram. They also have an official Discord server where members can stay in contact with each other. The club has expressed interest in hanging even more flyers around campus to help spread the word. Tice said that the club is thinking about hosting on-campus game nights.

Tice further explained that the Esports Club offers many opportunities and benefits both in and out of the University to its members. The club provides a way for members to connect with students from other schools during games.

“This allows them to grow a closer bond with not only their own team in games, but people outside of their own team as well,” Tice added. According to Tice, students may even gain potential internships or job through the connections they can make in the club. “The benefit our club has for its members is the coaching we give for our teams, either it be a one-on-one or full-team with one coach watching their gameplay.”

Tice believes that the most valuable experience students can gain in the club is being able to meet and connect with people who share similar interests and skills as them.

“The general atmosphere of the club is a very chill and welcoming environment,” said Tice. The agenda for a typical club meeting consists of going over what time games are for different teams, discussing what events the club will be participating in and going over updates to rosters and teams. This also includes regular team performance checkups.

The Esports Club is a member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Esports Program. They currently offer games such as “League of Legends,” “Valorant,” “Overwatch 2,” “Rainbow Six Siege,” “Counter-Strike,” “Smash Crews” and “Rocket League.”

The Esports Club holds weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. that typically run for about an hour. The meetings are located in the Science and Technology Center in room 138.
