This week, we asked ESU students about their thoughts on Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance.
We asked: “What were your thoughts on Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show?”
- “I enjoyed the show. I’ve been a fan of Kendrick since he released ‘DAMN,’ so hearing a couple hits from there as well as ‘GNX’ live was cool. I feel like he could’ve done maybe two or three hits from his earlier projects, and SZA could’ve sang a few of her hits too. Sam Jackson as Uncle Sam and what it represented for the performance as a whole was impactful for the country’s views of hip-hop as a whole. Everyone knew that there would be shots at Drake, but Kendrick could’ve gone without performing ‘Not Like Us’ and ‘Euphoria.’ Just a minor nitpick in an overall great performance.”

- “It was amazing and Samuel L. Jackson being Uncle Sam was the best representation [of social commentary] I’ve seen in a while [in a halftime show]. SZA deserved more time.”
