This past weekend the ESU Contemporary Dance Team hosted their annual Spring Showcase at the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Students, friends and loved ones came to see the dances that were choreographed by the team members.
I had the privilege to see the dances that this very talented team created. There were many different forms of dance performed, with most performances being Hip-Hop and Contemporary.
The show started off with a Hip-Hop performed by all the team members, choreographed by their E-Board: Leah Shupp (President), Delisa Harper (Vice President), Breonna Brinkley (Secretary), Erin Kolanko (Treasurer) and Crysta Heffner (Publicist).
After the opening performance there were different dances choreographed by the different team members. My personal favorite dances were Chasing Cars, Baby, Did You Ever Really Love Me and Skyfall.
Chasing Cars was a contemporary piece that was choreographed by Erin Kolanko. The performers dressed in a flowy white ballet skirt and the beautiful flow of the choreography contributed greatly to what was truly a beautiful dance.
Did You Ever Really Love Me was a contemporary dance that had tears in my eyes. The dance was choreographed by Delisa Harper. While watching the performance, I could tell she put a lot of heart and soul into the dance.
Skyfall was performed and choreographed by Leah Shupp and Delisa Harper. It was a contemporary duet that also moved me to tears. It was captivating and I couldn’t take my eyes off the performers dancing in perfect harmony.
The final number was a mix of different Hip-Hop songs with the intro and outro of the mix being the announcement that happens in the beginning of The Purge movie. This dance was named “The Purge” choreographed by Leah Shupp and Delisa Harper.
The whole team was a part of this dance, it was the perfect way to finish the show. I caught myself dancing along to the music and couldn’t pull my eyes away from the performance.
