A vehicle caught fire unexpectedly outside of the Science and Technology building early yesterday afternoon. Local fire department members managed to contain the fire and minimize any damage to campus property. None were injured according to ESU police on the scene.
Campus police officer Andrea O’Brien was at the scene of the fire.
“The owner of the vehicle said he was backing the car up and it just caught fire,” said O’Brien. O’Brien also said the student mentioned his power steering was having issues before the fire.
Several witnesses said an explosion was heard shortly after the fire started. One student said she was walking from the Sycamore building and thought the building was on fire until she walked further and saw it was a vehicle.

The vehicle could be scene badly damaged during the aftermath of the fire. The hood was popped open and the engine bay was left significantly burnt.
