The Stroud Courier has been a long standing example of students using their writing skills in order to make steps towards a career in journalism, marketing, or public relations. Regan Forsyth, the current sports editor for the Stroud Courier, has taken up an important role for someone who is only a freshman.
Forsyth was an active member of her high school’s paper as she was being introduced to news writing. She started and wrote many pieces in the monthly publication, doing many topics before she came to East Stroudsburg as an English Major specialized in Creative Writing and Literature.
“I kinda want to be a journalist after college. If it gets me there quicker, it gets me there quicker,” Regan Forsyth said when asked why she joined the Stroud Courier.
While Regan has a goal of getting into sports journalism specifically when she leaves college, she is also interested in pop culture journalism. She wants to write about movies, entertainment, celebrities and music.
“I’ve grown up being in the pop culture of music and the movies and I would be interested in writing about them.” Regan remarked.
Regan hated writing growing up, but when she got to high school she realized she enjoyed it, and when the opportunity opened up for her to write for her school’s paper, she jumped at it. It helped her prepare for the journalism world.

When asked about her favorite sport, she admitted to rarely paying attention to sports that were mainly broadcasted on TV, such as soccer, football, baseball, and basketball. Although, she did enjoy watching Rugby and Hockey, that was the extent to her enjoyment of sports.
Forsyth was also an avid reader. She said that while she has difficulties picking it up sometimes, she always keeps a book in her bag in case she just wants to sit down and read. The book can be from a variety of genres but the genre she reads the most is romance.
Forsyth feels that she has been making her way through college pretty well. She admitted that she went from being the kid in high school who never did her homework to the kid who got things in on time. That change was a struggle for her at first, but she feels that she has done pretty well.
She also managed to make a good number of friends via her major because they met the first day and since she sees them all the time she ends up sticking with them, knowing that they have built a connection.
Forsyth hopes to accomplish her goals. Her professional and respectful personality shows that being the editor for sports has her on the right track to do well in her future.
“If I can get through college and get my dream job, then I will have accomplished something I am proud of,” said Forsyth.
