The Lady Warriors 2024 season is in full swing. With more than 23 regular season games left the team has already broken records that will continue as the season progresses. Coach Jaime Wohlbach and senior pitcher Paige Zigmund are two of the newest record holders.

Wohlbach in her ninth season she has just set the all-time wins record, in a game against Millersville where she received her 209th win. She has also broken the single-season win record in the last three seasons. The previous record was held by Jone Bush who coached from 1976-88 with 208 wins.

Zigmund who has been coached by Wohlbach for her entire college softball career has also had her share of accomplishments and broken records.

“Try not to focus or try too hard for something like that, let your natural ability guide you there and it’ll come! Try and work hard and keep a positive mindset through games and practices” Zigmund said.

Her team accomplishments have consisted of the first trip in program history to the Division Two Women’s College World Series and the first Super Regional win in program history.

Her individual player accomplishments have consisted of being Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference all East first team, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference pitcher of the year, Division Two Conference Commissioners Association All-region first team and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-region first team.

Zigmund said, “I don’t like to look at stats or records or anything I like for all the accolades to come naturally and just worry about my team and winning games so I didn’t know I was going to set the records or anything.”

Without her knowledge prior to the season Zigmund now so far, this season ended up breaking three individual school records. The first was the most wins in a single season which is currently 26. The previous record was held by Crissy Wontroba with 16 season wins.

The second was for most career wins which is currently standing at 48. The previous record was held by Kristen Halvorsen from 2005-08 with 44 career wins.

The third record Zigmund broke was an individual position record for pitching which was 186 strikeouts in one season. The previous record was held by Katie Zaun with 166 strikeouts.

When playing sports, it is not always easy to break records or receive accomplishments but the softball team is showing that with work and dedication, it can be possible.

“This season hasn’t been the easiest for me mentally or physically. I’m trying every day to work on my confidence and realize that pressure is an honor. Coming from on top of the mountain it’s hard to meet that again. I have trust in my team to have my back and always pick me up and I’ve really been leaning on them as we have opened PSAC play. I am honored to have the accolades I do but I give it all to my supportive teammates and people who help me out when during the lows of the game,” said Zigmund.

As the season continues to progress these current records will continue to be broken. To keep up with the softball team, follow them on Facebook or through the roster website.
